Preventing Behavior Problems: You

SLC logo

We certainly don't believe a child's disability is caused by their parents. Please don't take anything in this section to suggest that in the slightest. What we DO think is that all children are affected by their parents and children with disabilities are children first. Your child is going to look to you and your behavior as his first role model.

When I was director of Even Start, I would begin work with young parents by asking them to complete this exercise. Please understand that the purpose is not to make you feel like a bad parent, in fact, if you didn't care about your children you wouldn't be reading this page in the first place, just like those parents would not have been attending classes at Even Start.

Please click on the link below and go to the next page where you will be asked some questions about where you want to see your child at age 25 and where you are in your life now. We have not asked personal questions such as whether you are an alcoholic, whether you use drugs or whether you are in an abusive relationship. Try to think about those questions to yourself as you answer the other questions on the form.
