Jeanne's View
JEANNE'S VIEW: No one appreciates my efforts

Jeanne stops, irritated again, what the heck business is it of hers?
“I’m going to get my kids,” she answers patiently, after all, she is trying to be professional, “They have been at my mom’s for an hour already and I need to pick them up.”
The boss takes a deep breath,
“Look, Jeanne, you are obviously a really smart person and we want to keep you working here. Your hours are 8:30 to 5. You came in an hour late. You are leaving half an hour early. We aren’t going to keep paying you eight hours for a six and a half hour day. You knew you had children when you took this job. You need to find a way to be here on time and stay all day.”
Jeanne tosses her head, stomps out the door and slams it behind her, thinking, “What a #$$^! “ Sandi goes back to her desk and wonders how long it is going to be before she needs to advertise that position again.

What is going on here? Jeanne is trying the strategies that worked for her at home and she is on the path to being a failure at work. At home, if she is sullen, stomps around and slams doors, her mother feels sorry that she has hurt Jeanne’s feelings. When Jeanne says that she is not cleaning the house or going to the store for her mom because she is helping her children with their schoolwork or ‘putting my children first’, her mother feels guilty for asking and quits bringing the subject up.

Jeanne thinks her boss is a bad person and this is a bad place to work because no one cares about her and they don’t care that she is trying to be a good mother to her children. They are awful people and she should go work some place else. She is the only person in her house who needs to get up and go to work every day. She is the only one of her friends who has a regular job right now. You’d think they would appreciate that at work and give her some respect.
