The Parent Training and Information Center (previously known as the Native American Parent Training and Information Center) assists families/parents of children with special needs. The center helps parents (Native Americans included) understand their rights as well as helping them understand education laws that might be useful. The center has counselors or Family Support Coordinators that meet with the families and provide follow-up support for the educational programs of their children. If needed, the counselor will participate in the development of the child’s Individualized Education Plan. The counselor can give the families referrals to other programs if he/she is unable to assist the family.  Families have access to videos, books, tapes, and other resources on special education and early childhood which are available at the center. A few other services include but are not limited to:

  • Definitions of disabilities
  • Non-profit organizations and community support groups
  • Early childhood and young adult transition planning
  • Training in positive parent involvement

The Parent Training and Information Center provides these services free of charge. Parents can find more information on the website at www.pathfinder.minot.com
