Just two years ago, Spirit Lake Consulting, Inc. sent out a press release to announce hitting the $1 million dollar mark in contracted business with a grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. The success of reaching million dollars only pushed SLC’s motivation further and now, in February 2007, they are celebrating their latest achievement. SLC has been awarded another grant from NIDRR, the RUSH award (Research Utilization Support and Help), for their Disability Access Dissemination Project. This award continues company funding in an effort to further develop its computer-integrated, culturally specific training and meet the needs of people with disabilities in rural, disadvantaged communities.
Currently, Spirit Lake Consulting, Inc. holds contracts with the University of California, Riverside, Spirit Lake Head Start, the World Black Belt Training Institute and the University of North Dakota. This particular award will provide individuals with disabilities and their families with a website and CD-ROM equipped with a virtual schoolhouse to meet their technological, cultural, and health needs. It will also serve to disseminate disability access research findings over the web to over 10,000 users per month through national meetings, electronic newsletters, and tribal journals.
Dr. Erich Longie, the first Spirit Lake Dakota Sioux Tribe member to receive a doctorate, and Dr. AnnMaria DeMars, who has written funded proposals for over $15 million dollars, will continue with their work on staff training and website development. They will be in attendance at the CANAR workshop in Washington D.C., the week of February 18th, presenting the latest ground-breaking progress of Spirit Lake Consulting, Inc.
