Child abuse is a cycle that has perhaps been passed on from the abuser's childhood and is not something that can be neatly cleaned up or solved in a day. Looking for ways to prevent stress in the parent's life is one option. Going to support groups or a counselor is another way to flesh through the issues that are causing this abuse to go on. Give the child to a family member or close friend to take care of for a few days while you cool down and sort through things. It is an ongoing process, but with the support of others, abuse is something that can eventually be worked through.
