28 years ago (yes, they had internships back then!) that is how I found my internship for my MBA was going to the university career center. Interesting that Jessica found hers the same way and I know for a fact that she wasn't even BORN 28 years ago!!

Kelly - I am surprised one of your instructors, or your advisor hasn’t talked to you about it.  In addition, most universities and colleges and a career counseling office, which may be useful in helping you find an internship.  Maybe I should ask you, what is your program-of-study.  My advice would be more helpful if I knew what your area you are getting a diploma in.

Definitely go through the Career Services at school.  That's how I found my college internship.  Also, Craigslist has some internship opportunities, as well as other basic job sites.  Good luck!

If you have any previous work experience or volunteer work, you may want to contact those individuals for references. This can help you plan and prepare for the internship. Also, as Annmaria mentioned, most of your college Internship Supervisors should have a list of agencies. But, if you are looking to specialize or pick an area that is new to your Profession you can always surf the internet for options. In most small towns or rural communities these placement sites are hard to find. Use your contacts, people you know who will steer you in the right direction.

Ask your professors. They should know people in your field. Ask everyone you know. You may think, "My friend is 21, she doesn't know anybody," but her next-door neighbor might be in the business you are looking to go into.

Currently, I am a college student who needs to do an internship for credit in my field in order to graduate. In general, does anyone have any tips on how to find and secure one? Any basic approaches you would advise?
