Resources for the Acquisition of English Language Learners

from around the world

Our sponsor Language and Learning Institute: Title III Grant at the University of California, Riverside for training teachers of English Language Learners.

Our philosophy- Teachers have neither enough time nor enough money. To be featured on the REALnet website two objective criteria must be met...the site offers some or all of its resources for free and it does not take very long to find those resources. Any site that required going through six web pages or viewing five pop-up ads before finding those free resources did not make the cut to be included here.

Resources for classroom use in teaching English language learners

FINE ARTS -- Art and Music sites are found here.

GENERAL: These sites are multidisciplinary.

HUMANITIES - Includes Film Studies, English, Literature, Ethnic Studies and anything else I was not sure where to put but too specific for the general category.

MATHEMATICS: Both secondary and primary resources, in English and Spanish.

RESOURCE FOR PARENTS and for teachers working with parents. Most of these sites are available in both Spanish and English.

READING & LANGUAGE ARTS: This is a page focused mostly on elementary. Literature and other secondary subjects are found on the Humanities page.

SCIENCE: Includes brief reviews of and links to resources in both Spanish and English, for all grade levels, grouped by discipline (astronomy, environmental education) as well as general science.

SOCIAL STUDIES: History and geography resources for elementary through secondary.

Best in Show: Chosen on the "E" factor - either our professional or student testers made some type of exclamation when they saw them, such as, "Hey, I could really use that!" or "Wow! Show that again. Let's see what else is there."

Check out these two new features under development.

Electronic Library - full text retrieval for lesson plans, resource guides and handouts. An electronic filing cabinet for your classroom.
Commons Area, including the Virtual Field Trip - the places you'll go! Stop here for a tour of sites that threaten to combine two supposed opposites - fun and education. We hope you end feeling like a kid in a candy store.
