Parental Involvement: It's never too early

Spirit Lake toddler If anyone asked, you would agree that it is very important for parents to be involved in their child's education. So, why aren't you? If you are like most parents, there are several reasons:
  • You are too busy. You have a child with special needs, maybe other children as well, a job, a house to clean, groceries to buy, diapers to change.
  • No one really likes to ask for help. You don't want the teacher or other staff at your child's school to think you are a bad parent.
  • You feel as if the staff is criticizing your ability as a parent when they make suggestions. After all, if you were doing a good job, they wouldn't be telling you to change, would they?
  • It bothers you that your child is not doing as well as other children, for a lot of reasons. You love him and want him to have a good childhood and be happy. You worry if he will have problems once he goes to school. You're afraid maybe no one can help you, he has problems & that's just the way it is.
