Making Sense of the Alphabet Soup: What all those acronyms mean

CFR - Code of Federal Regulations
CIL - Center for Independent Living
DHHS - Department of Health and Human Services
DOE - Department of Education. OSERS and RSA are both within the DOE.
DOL - Department of Labor
EDGAR - Education Department General Administrative Regulations

GFA - Guide for Applicants. This tells you what specific information should be included in a grant proposal. It also gives guidelines with regard to due dates, page limits, who is eligible to apply and so forth.
IEP - Individual Education Plan - tells what services a child in school will receive.

IFSP - Individual Family Service Plan - tells what services a young child with a disability and his or her family will receive

IPE - Individual Plan of Employment - tells what services a person with a disability looking for work will receive from vocational rehabilitation.

IHS - Indian Health Service
IWRP - Individual Written Rehabilitation Program (this is the old term that has been replaced by IEP)

OSERS - Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services
RFP - Request for Proposals. This is generally accompanied by a GFA.
RSA - Rehabilitation Services Administration
SLVRP - Spirit Lake Vocational Rehabilitation Project - that's us!
SPIL : State Plan for Independent Living
SSA - Social Security Administration
